Mahindra University is organising its annual R&D showcase with the theme of ‘Sustainable Development’ @ MU 2020. The MU Research Symposium seeks to create a platform for students from all over the country to exhibit their projects and research activities towards providing solutions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the form of posters, talks and design prototypes.
Eminent personalities from Academia and Industry will give keynote and plenary lectures to accompany the student presentations.
Inspired by the theme of sustainable development, we seek to recognize that our research and technological endeavours must go hand-in-hand with sustainable development and environmental preservation.
The Symposium aims to foster dialogue and discussion between members of the engineering and research community and encourage collaboration between researchers, students, and academicians and promises to keep you engaged and enthralled.
As we develop our new virtual format, we assure to have a rich variety of presentations and fruitful discussions that have always been part of our Research Symposium.
Professor Santanu Choudhury, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, has assumed charge as Director, IIT Jodhpur, on 10 December 2018. Professor Choudhury holds B.Tech. (Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering) and Ph.D. (Computer Science & Engineering) Degrees from IIT Kharagpur.
Professor Choudhury joined as Faculty Member in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, in 1992. He was Dean, Under-Graduate Studies at IIT Delhi. He has served as Director of CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, during 2016-18. Professor Choudhury is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus award from IIT Kharagpur.
Professor Choudhury is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) and National Academy of Sciences (NAS). He is a Fellow of International Association Pattern Recognition (IAPR). He was awarded the INSA (Indian National Science Academy) Medal for Young Scientists in 1993. He received ACCS-CDAC award for his research contributions in 2012.
A keen researcher and a thorough academic, Professor Choudhury has about 300 publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings, 15 patents and 4 authored/edited books to his credit.
Ganesh Bagler is an interdisciplinary researcher with training in physics, computational techniques and computational biology. He has masters degree in physics (Pune University), MTech in computational techniques (University of Hyderabad), and PhD in computational biology (CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology). Ganesh received his postdoctoral training from NCBS (Bangalore) and MPI-MG (Berlin). He has been working on biological complex systems modeling, and has investigated protein structures and complex diseases from graph theoretical perspectives. He is credited with the observation of assortative mixing in residue interaction graph models of protein structures as well as discovery of exceptional ‘negative food pairing’ in Indian cuisine. His research involves questions on the interface of biology, medicine and computational sciences
Dr Shankar leads technology innovation for the Automotive & Farm services business (AFS). He heads the intellectual property (Patents) and knowledge management functions. He is also the Dean of the Mahindra Technical Academy. Shankar is passionate about developing sustainable urban mobility solutions and his current interests span across electric vehicles, connected vehicles, autonomous vehicles and precision farming. Prior to joining Mahindra & Mahindra, Shankar has held technology innovation leadership roles at GE, Dow, Honeywell and Cummins. He holds ten international patents and numerous new product innovation awards. He has developed a proprietary innovation methodology – Innovation FLOW – and trained 1000 + inventors and innovators. Shankar obtained a Ph.D in Materials Science and a gold medal for the best doctoral thesis from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He completed his executive management program from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Shankar is an avid reader and is interested in physics, philosophy and psychology. He teaches technology innovation management at premier engineering & management institutes in India & abroad.
Mr. Prashant Lingam is a Social Entrepreneur from Hyderabad (India), and co-founder of "Bamboo House India", with 15 years of experience in social business plus 5 years of experience in commercial business. He is currently with the United Nations Development Programme - Plastic Waste Management Project.
His social venture works in sustainable bamboo-based livelihoods with an aim of utilizing bamboo as an economic driver for providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to rural and tribal communities at the base of the economic pyramid with a specialization in building houses with bamboo.
His current social initiative is on the burning issue of plastic waste and is involved in developing low-cost shelter solutions with plastic waste and trying to give a second lease of life to waste plastic and provide fair price and enhanced livelihood opportunities to waste-picker communities.
His innovative social business models have been studied with universities Harvard, Cornell, Kellogg, ISB researching his work. He has received an invitation from the Government of the United States and Govt. of Kenya for his work.
He has been named among the world's 100 social entrepreneurs bringing a change with his work. His bamboo work has been extensively featured in research journals and also in World Bank Report and is credited with bringing bamboo to Country's notice. He also is known as the "bamboo man". He is a renowned speaker at national and international platforms with several awards and rewards for his work.
He is credited with building the world's first “Recycled Plastic House” and has developed several innovative products with plastic waste, scrap Tyres, drums, bicycles, textile waste, etc. His innovative social business models have touched numerous livelihoods.
His work has been featured in over 1500 magazines, news channels, newspapers including BBC, World Economic Forum, French TV, Australian TV, Russian TV, other global media agencies including a feature by US Consulate.
Prof. Prasanta Panigrahi is a senior Professor at Department of Physics, IISER Kolkata. He did PhD in field theory at University of Rochester, NewYork, USA. He held the position of Director, IISER Kolkata during 2017-2018. Prior to this, he held academic positions at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad (2005-2007) and University of Hyderabad (2002-2004). His research interests include Quantum Computation and Quantum Information, Bose-Einstein Condensation, Cold Fermions, Non-linear Dynamics, Field theory and Wavelet transforms. He has authored more than 200 publications.
